Please check local regulations for: Mayener Grubenfeld
The Mayener Grubenfeld is a disused basalt quarry that is run as a museum of adventure worlds “Grubenfeld”.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We were just onlookers on Mondays.

The basalt found here has been used by humans for 7,000 years. It is ideal for making grain graters and millstones. Traces of mining from Roman times and the Middle Ages as well as cranes, tracks and lorries from the 20th century are omnipresent.A circular path winds through the bizarre mining landscape with the Silver Lake, the "Lapidea" sculpture park and the "Bat Tunnel". There, a walk-through shaft takes you into an old mine, where, with a little luck, you can observe the current inhabitants: bats.

I walked all the paths in this mining area.
It's really worth it.
There are explanatory panels everywhere and you can also see many beautiful stone sculptures.
