In Roccamorice there is a statue dedicated to Eddy Merckx, who won the Blockhaus stage in 1967. The Giro d'Italia arrived at the Blockhaus for the first time in that year. The young Belgian was, at the time, unknown: the newspapers headlined 'Victory of an unknown Belgian sprinter in the Abruzzo Apennines'.
