Schulensbroek is located in the valley of the Demer on the border of Halen, Herk-de-Stad and Limmen. The FLA or Flood Controlled Area consists of an inner basin of 150 hectares and a surrounding area of 190 hectares. When the flood plain is filled, several watercourses can no longer drain into the lake. The water from those watercourses is then pumped to the Demer via the pumping station. And the pumping station, which you can view on the edge of the lake, still has functions as you can see in the photos.
