Chris Gueffroy (1968-1989) died nine months before the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was shot while escaping not far from here at the Britzer branch canal at the Berlin Wall and is the last fatality of the inhumane border regime of the SED dictatorship of the GDR (see, among other things, berlin.de/mauer/orte/gedenkorte memorial-chris-gueffroy-am-britzer-zweigkanal-297878.php) Chris Gueffroy was 20 years old when he died.
