At 129 meters, the Lange Stein is the highest point in the Harburg hill country, which is part of the Luheheide. The summit of the Langen Stein is wooded and quite inconspicuous.

There is no real hilltop to be found here. Located directly on one of the new Heideschleifen.

The Lange Stein near Vahrendorf in the Lower Saxony district of Harburg is 129 m above sea level. NHN the highest elevation of the Harburger Hügelland belonging to the Luheheide.

The summit is unfortunately inconspicuous and not marked by a stone etc. Unfortunately, there are no great views either. But it is the highest elevation in the region here and therefore of course also a highlight.

The "summit" is a few steps above the hiking trail, is easy to reach, but can only be guessed at due to the lack of markings.
A little further along the path there is a nice rest area with two benches, a table and great views of the country that make up for the missing view from the summit.
If you want, you can even take the bus here. A bus stop (see photo) is very close by.

The Lange Stein rises 1.7 km southeast of the border between Lower Saxony and Hamburg. Its summit is 750 m west of the center of Vahrendorf, 1.3 km north-northwest of Sottorf and 550 m south-east of Alvesen; they are all districts of the municipality of Rosengarten. The summit of the Kiekeberg is about 430 m north-east.

The Lange Stein belongs to the Lüneburg Heath main unit group of natural features and to the Harburg Hill Country subunit in the Luheheide main unit. To the northwest and west, the landscape merges into the Harburg Mountains, which are part of the Black Mountains natural area.

The beautiful hiking trail "Heideschleife Schwarze Berge" leads past here. It's easy to miss the "summit" if you don't look at the digital map. :)

The mountain is rather unspectacular. But all around there are very nice paths and possible views over the hilly landscape.

At 129m high, it can almost be described as high. Why this peak is called that even though there is no stone there is not known.

The hiking trail "Schwarze Berge (W5)" also leads along here. All information about the hiking trail can be found under the following link: regionalpark-rosengarten.de/aktiv-und-erleben-2/wandern/wander-tour-schwarze-berge (as of September 22, 2024).
