The work XXXIV of the federal fortress Ulm, the fort lower Eselsberg is inconspicuous in the middle of the residential area Eselsberg.
Components of the fort are a surrounding rampart with a powder magazine in the right wall and a throat battery in the left wall, a dry ditch running all around, a double caponier, a hollow traverse and a strong mortar battery in the Saillant and a reduit in the middle of the throat side. The movement is constructed almost square so that the flanks are missing. The reduit reaches at both ends as traditors over the gorge wall into the gorge. When the works were modernized in 1880, the hollow beam was covered with earth and the reduit was given a side exit into the factory yard. From 1901 an ammunition plant was set up on the right Kehlgraben.
