At the time of Mainz Archbishop Willigis (975-1011) a church was built for the first time in Obermoschel. It was located on the same spot where today's Catholic parish church was built. It was first mentioned in a document in 1298. The church was originally dedicated to Saint Peter and belonged to the deanery of Münsterappel. It was not until 1346 that a Marian altar was donated to the church.
In the 1970s the inventory was replaced by contemporary works from other churches in the Speyer diocese. The carved neo-Gothic altar was acquired in 1978. The tower clock was installed in 1997. Two years later, the interior of the church was extensively renovated again.
