The Cistercian convent Mariensee was founded in the 13th century. The residents ran agriculture, sold the products in Hanover and thus financed the construction of a sacred church. The monastery complex was destroyed due to war and a major fire, only the church was initially preserved. It was King George II who finally rebuilt the monastery in the style of the North German Baroque.

First mention of the Cistercian monastery in 1207.
Today it is a gospel. Women's monastery in Mariensee.
The church and the cloister can be visited in the monastery.

Large site with a few construction sites here and there. Still nice to look at.
