Best in the late afternoon in autumn, just before sunset to enjoy the tower and the great view.

Linn Castle allows visitors to travel back in time to the Middle Ages. Although the castle complex dates back to the 1950s, it has been rebuilt according to the old model. A fire during the War of the Spanish Succession reduced the former fortress to ruins. Today, however, day trippers can still find a lot worth seeing around the historic center of the Krefeld district of Linn. The annual flax market is the highlight of the program.

Anyone who leisurely strolls along the castle wall, takes a walk through the English garden or visits the castle museum at the former entrance to the historic center of Linn feels transported to another time. The complex reflects the perfect image of a medieval castle, although it is not that old.

There are several reasons for this: A fire raged in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession and completely destroyed the former castle complex, which was gradually expanded and extended from the 12th century. A historic cultural site falls into disrepair while an idyllic hunting lodge is rebuilt in the forecourt. After the Second World War, the overgrown castle ruins were once again transformed into an impressive magnificent building, which was breathed new life into in the 1950s according to the original plans.

HISTORY BEGINS WITH OTTO VON LINN

Even today, the outer walls bear witness to the extraordinary history of Linn Castle, which begins with a residential and defensive tower belonging to the nobleman Otto von Linn. The knight sold his property to the archbishop of Cologne in 1188, who in turn appointed him as a feudal lord. Linn has a ring wall built and protected by flanking towers. Other buildings such as the Torzwinger, the Knights' Hall and the Keep only followed under the Counts of Kleve, who from 1264 were entrusted with the castle as feudal lords. The founding of a historic town center at the foot of the complex, sieges and defensive fortifications follow in the following centuries.

"Small, but mighty", "ideal for a Sunday excursion", "a gem on the Lower Rhine", this is what visitors on various online portals are currently saying about the stone giant with its many small attractions such as the representative hall building, the excavated moat and the beautiful green area, that surrounds the area.

A small, beautiful park in front of the castle with gravel paths. Plenty of benches to relax on – perfect for a short break.
