The Meding Shaft and the Bergwerkswohlfahrt Mine
The Meding Shaft was part of the Bergwerkswohlfahrt mine, which had been operating as a lead and zinc mine since 1822. Its owner was the Prussian Mining and Metallurgical Company (PREUSSAG). The shaft was sunk in 1829 and was named in honor of the Hanoverian minister von Meding. The Bergwerkswohlfahrt union was located in the eastern vein of "Silbernaal" (= "Silver Nail"). Both the Silbernaal mine and the "Haus Braunschweig" had mined ore there for centuries.

Ruins of the old ore processing from the Meding Bay, ore mine. The Meding Bay, one of the most productive mines in the western Harz, is almost forgotten today.
