The palace is square, with a main façade 63 meters wide by 17 meters high. Its circular patio in the center stands out, unique in its style and the most outstanding work of the Renaissance in Spain.

King Carlos V built this palace after the Arab-ruled Granada was conquered by the Christians in 1492. He was so amazed by the splendor of the Alhambra that he wanted to have a palace within the Alhambra for himself as a symbol of Christianity. The palace then also stands in contrast to the palaces in the Moorish architectural style. The result was a massive building with a square floor plan. Inside with a circular courtyard (diameter 42m) flanked by 32 columns. Today there are two museums here.

Parts of the Naṣrid palaces were demolished for the palace of Charles V. Built around a circular courtyard, the two-story, almost cubic Renaissance-style building commissioned by Charles V in 1527 was never quite completed. After centuries as a ruin, the palace only got a roof in the 20th century. Since 1958 it has housed the Fine Arts Museum and the Alhambra Museum, among others. At the northeast corner of the palace is an octagonal chapel, possibly inspired by the Aachen Palatine Chapel where Charles V was crowned emperor in 1520.Reliefs on the west portal show contemporary battle scenes based on Machuca's designs.Source and more info
