The old Roskilder Town Hall was built in 1884 in the Gothic style to the design of architect O. Momme. He was also responsible for the design of the town hall, the stairwell and vestibule.
The town hall tower from the 16th century served as a church tower for the Sct. Laurentii church, the remains of which you can explore under today's Stændertorvet square.

A nice open space in the center of Roskilde. Many shops and a few cafes and restaurants. Best on a sunny day

Roskilde Cathedral (Danish: Roskilde Domkirke) is located in the heart of the city of Roskilde on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. Roskilde Cathedral is not only worth a visit for its grand architecture and magnificent interiors, but also for its historical significance. Because the cathedral has been the grave church of the Danish royal family since the 15th century, with numerous side chapels and canopies that have been added over the centuries. In addition, the cathedral is the first Gothic cathedral ever to be built from brick and contributed significantly to the spread of brick Gothic throughout Northern Europe. The cathedral was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and has both Gothic and Romanesque architectural features. Until the 20th century it was the only cathedral in Zealand. The two elegant towers dominate the city skyline. In 1995 Roskilde Cathedral was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The cathedral is an important part of Danish history and, as one of Roskilde's largest tourist attractions, attracts over 125,000 visitors annually. According to legend, Harald Blauzahn, who for the first time was able to unite all Danes under one crown, built the first church on a hill above Roskilde in 985 - which, however, has not yet been scientifically proven. The actual construction of the cathedral began in the 1170s. Since then, 21 Danish kings and 17 queens have been buried in the cathedral, including the legendary King Harald Blue Tooth.
