The memorial is located on the towpath on the banks of the Schelde between Wetteren and Schellebelle. The municipality of Wetteren wanted to provide a quiet and peaceful spot for locals and passersby to mourn their losses in challenging times like these.
The artwork is based upon the abstract shape of 2 persons standing side by side, with a significant part missing. This extraction symbolizes that exact feeling of missing the loved ones we’ve lost over the course of this pandemic.
