The sculpture of a donkey, created by Heide Dobberkau, has stood in the middle of Bechen since 1983. The name "donkey village" goes back to a story from the Bergisch. In the past, the farmers from Bechen brought their products to the Cologne market with their donkeys. Since the donkeys are sometimes a bit stubborn and idiosyncratic, the Bechen came to the market a little later. So the saying went around the Cologne market: "Loss mer jet waade mem koofe, the Bechen donkeys are still not there".
