Here you have a great view of the large Dhünntalsperre, after all Germany's second largest drinking water dam. All around is a lot of nature with many rare and protected species.

Impressive construction and one of the few places where you come directly to the dam. Otherwise, the circular route always remains at a distance, because of drinking water

The name of the Great Dhünntalsperre derives not from their dimensions, but from their main tributary, the brook "Great Dhünn" ago. The dam was built in 1960-1962. It was quickly recognized that the capacity of the Dhünntalsperre for the future drinking water supply would not be enough. The conversion began in April 1975 and ended in 1985. The round tower in the reservoir, through which the water is extracted, leads 50 meters down to the bottom of the dam.
