Impressive construction and one of the few places where you come directly to the dam. Otherwise, the circular route always remains at a distance, because of drinking water

From the barrier wall of the Dhünntalsperre you have a magnificent view of the dam.

The so-called dam route leads around the entire reservoir including Vorsperren and covers nearly 40 km.

The name of the Great Dhünntalsperre derives not from their dimensions, but from their main tributary, the brook "Great Dhünn" ago. The dam was built in 1960-1962. It was quickly recognized that the capacity of the Dhünntalsperre for the future drinking water supply would not be enough. The conversion began in April 1975 and ended in 1985. The round tower in the reservoir, through which the water is extracted, leads 50 meters down to the bottom of the dam.

Although it is only a dam, the imposing size and the beautiful nooks and crannies are really impressive 🤠

Great view of the Great Dhünntalsperre, after all Germany's second largest drinking water dam. All around great nature with many rare and protected species.
