As indicated by the Catholic parish register of Rittershoffen, the suffragan bishop of the diocese of Strasbourg said of the small church that it was completely destroyed ("penitas destructam"), during his diocesan visit. The act is dated November 11, 1724. The inhabitants of Leiterswiller, with a Catholic majority, ask the diocese on this occasion to provide them with financial aid for the church reconstruction project.

The church, which however retains some vestiges of the times of the 15th and 16th centuries, is unusable until its reconstruction, as also confirmed by the Protestant parish register of Rittershoffen. The sacraments of baptism and marriage, as well as burial services are indeed carried out in the surrounding churches for the different denominations. It should therefore be the same for masses and services outside of these events.
