It is best to hike around the airfield on the mostly narrow path.

The Farrenberg gliding site is an airfield that is primarily used for gliding. The area is located in the south of Baden-Württemberg near the town of Mössingen on the Farrenberg. It is a gliding site with a special permit for aircraft towing and associated motor flights (e.g. circuits for training purposes).

The Farrenberg gliding site is located 800 meters above sea level in a landscape conservation area. The exposed location on the Farrenberg allows gliders to take off around 500 meters higher than from the surrounding gliding sites. In light winds, the mountain on the windward side usually offers slope lift, which the gliders can use to gain altitude in addition to the thermals.
The airfield has three grass runways. The runway for motor flights, aircraft towing and self-launching is 810 m long and 30 m wide (direction 10/28). There is also a 350 m long and 40 m wide runway to the north (direction 10/28) and a 300 m long and 40 m wide runway to the west (direction 28). Both are used for landing gliders. Gliders take off by aircraft tow or winch launch.

The airfield has been operated by the Mössingen Flying Club and the Tübingen Flying Club since August 23, 1952. The runways are about a kilometer long and have no lighting, so the airfield can be used almost exclusively for daytime operations and visual flight.
