The Kornbühl is 886.5 m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the so-called Middle Kuppenalb, part of the Swabian Alb, and lies between the Burladingen districts of Salmendingen and Ringingen. The Kornbühl is a much-visited excursion mountain in the Middle Swabian Alb not far from the Swabian Alb Road

The pilgrimage site Salmendinger Chapel is located on the Kornbühl.
The Härtling towers over the surrounding Alb plateau by around 100 meters. The foundation of the mountain is a limestone layer 40 meters thick, called Weißjura Beta according to the classification of the Tübingen geologist Friedrich August von Quenstedt. Above this lies a 40-50 meter high marl layer (Weißjura Gamma), before the top of the Kornbühl ends with the mass limestone formed from sponge reefs (Weißjura Delta). This layer proves to be particularly resistant to erosion.

In some years, when the snow melts, a temporary lake, the Märzenbronnen, is created at the foot of the Kornbühl.

        Nature reserve
Around 1900 the mountain was hardly forested due to grazing. Today it is the task of nature conservation to protect open spaces from succession. Since June 15, 1983, the 11.6 hectare nature reserve on Kornbühl has protected the vegetation complex of juniper heath, semi-dry grassland and thorn bushes, as well as their species-rich flora and fauna, which is typical of the southern slopes of the Swabian Alb, which are grazed by sheep. The conical shape of the mountain is the starting point for orientation in all directions and thus different microclimatic conditions. This enabled a variety of plant communities to develop. Around 200 plant and almost 350 animal species have been identified around the Kornbühl, including 15 species of grasshoppers and 29 species of butterflies.
