Near the Saint Dionysius Church, in the park of the country house, on the north side, one can still see some remains of a medieval castle. An old Ghent patrician family lived here in the 16th century. The castle was a country residence of knight Rijkaert, 'Lord of Roborst' and mayor of Ghent in 1516. His son Jan Utenhove later became a well-known leader of the Protestant church for Dutch religious refugees in London.[1] The former town hall is the original gatehouse. Roborst was part of the land of Zottegem.
