Tips

You can’t help but to be in awe of this beautiful structure. Bike lanes filter you around the sides of the toll barriers but keep an eye on cars going through as you rejoin the road.

    • March 18, 2019

  • The easiest way in and out of Bristol by bike. Usually quiet and leads straight to Ashton court and some nice roads out of Bristol. Can be used to head to the Mendips or over towards Weston Super Mare and Clevedon.

    • March 28, 2019

  • If you’re visiting Bristol then you HAVE to go over the bridge at some point. Absolutely stunning views and a masterpiece in industrial engineering.

    • August 10, 2018

  • At the moment there are roadworks on the Clifton side so be careful. Make sure to use the bike paths around the barriers.

    • May 31, 2019

  • You get a better experience walking across instead of cycling.

  • I just love this bridge. Great views, iconic bridge, I just love it!

    • October 27, 2020

  • Great sprint when it's not too busy...or windy!

    • March 17, 2021

  • Opened in 1864, and having taken 33 years to build, Clifton Suspension Bridge remains a defining feature of Bristol, described by its creator, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, as his first child, his darling. You'll want to keep your head up if you suffer from vertigo...

    • August 27, 2021

  • You can also go beneath it of course. It's a great ride from the Avon motorway bridge following the Avon up into the Avon gorge at Clifton to pass under the suspension bridge.
