Ernst Johannes Fritz Thälmann was a German politician in the Weimar Republic. He was chairman of the German Communist Party from 1925 until his arrest in 1933, representing it in the Reichstag from 1924 to 1933 and for which he stood as a candidate in the presidential elections of 1925 and 1932.
