“With their dry, sandy, nutrient-poor locations, the Nordoer inland dunes offer a valuable habitat for butterflies. The preservation of the heather-rich open habitats is elementary, without which many species could not survive. Nordoe is one of the last areas in Schleswig-Holstein where the plantain snail moth occurs. The golden fritillary, which was once also widespread in Schleswig-Holstein, was last seen in the North Oer inland dunes in the 1990s. With the help of the EU-funded project LIFE-Aurinia, it will be resettled here. The lesser peacock moth can only be observed as an adult butterfly between April and May. After hatching from its pupa, it has no mouthparts. The moths can only survive for a few days without food. Their existence is solely for reproduction. The Lesser Fritillary, on the other hand, flies from April to October. It produces up to four generations in a year.
