The path leads directly around the small lake on many small and large stones. Slightly above you can see the excavation of the mines - mountains of shale.

I prefer this route up, it's easier on the knees than the Low Water route, less busy as well.

The corrie between Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag is called The Cove and located in this is the small tarn of Goat's Water.
The path skirts the eastern shore before ascending north to Goat's Hause.
The views up to the crags of Dow Crag are impressive.
