On the north side, Ameide is bordered by the Lek river, while the Oude Zederik marks the east. On the northwest side it borders the Lek, where the village of Tienhoven is located on the Lek, which together with Ameide forms a community within the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden.

Historically, Ameide is most likely considered the oldest settlement in the Alblasserwaard and was among the oldest towns in Holland.
