    Tips

    April 13, 2023

The tunnel is very long (approx. 2km) and wet, waterproof shoes and a rain jacket are strongly recommended. A flashlight or cell phone light is absolutely necessary. The tunnel is not suitable for wider people, in some places the path is only 30cm wide. Anyone taller than 1.80m has an uncomfortable hike ahead of them.
From the exit to the entrance of the Reiter Tunnel, a steep path is clearly visible and signposted.

The tunnel is currently closed. On the northeast side, the railing and parts of the levada are missing due to a rock fall.

The tunnel is 1.8 km long and runs absolutely straight. At the beginning of the tunnel you can already see the end of the tunnel. Nevertheless, it is highly advisable to take a headlamp with you, as it takes about 30 minutes to get through the tunnel.

Soon we get to the most adventurous part of the tour: the approx. 1.8 km long, narrow and in places only a little more than 1.60 m high tunnel. A little caution is required if you don't want to take an involuntary cold bath, because to the left of the narrow path there is an unsecured watercourse, but there is no danger of falling. Don't forget your headlamp!!!

The tunnel is scary because of its length. Although you can see the glow of the exit when you go in, the passage takes at least 30 minutes, depending on how fast you are. Sometimes it is very slippery and you have to bend over. The longer you look at the light, the more it starts to move and you think it is getting closer. Already worth an experience!

I had a tremendous amount of respect for the tunnel. Think about full batteries.
