    The former, historically unique lime shaft kiln, built in 1893, had been left to decay for many years since operations were discontinued. Thanks to the voluntary work of the numerous energetic members of the BAXA lime kiln association, the general renovation of the building could be tackled in autumn 1996. On June 28, 1998, the ceremonial opening took place under the long-standing chairman Karl Tschank, which was intended to make the industrial monument a cultural meeting place in the region. The lime kiln and stone quarrying museum on the upper floor attracts as many visitors as the diverse events that find an atmospheric setting in the hexagonal gallery. A temporary café, the creative summer courses and the extensive hiking trails in the desert nature park make the lime kiln a diversely interesting destination.
