Beautiful wooden bridge over the Selbitz, a few meters before it flows into the Saale. The Selbitz used to be the border river between the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany, but today the bridge connects the former East and West Germany as well as the hiking hubs of Franconia and Thuringia. The major hiking trails Rennsteig, Kammweg, Frankenweg and Fränkischer Gebirgsweg begin here.

It's the end point of a great hike. The Rennsteig is again an unrestricted path through nature and human habitats and should always be. I grant everyone this experience of the hike over the entire 170 km or part of it. It remains sustainable.

The Rennsteig Trail ends at this bridge—the border between Thuringia and Bavaria. Here, the pebbles collected from the Werra in Hörschel are transferred to the Selbitz River.
