The pretty clocktower in Hay-on-Wye was built in 1881, costing £600, which seems good value these days. If you think you've seen it before, it is the same design as the clock tower in Knighton, a border town about 20 miles north of Hay.

Hay-On-Wye is an old market town which lies on the south-east bank of the River Wye and within the north east tip of the Brecon Beacons and just north of the Black Mountains.

The town, often referred to as the "town of books" has two dozen bookshops and hosts the annual literary festival - Hay Festival.

With year round tourism the town has plenty of delicious cafes and pubs / restaurants to choose from. Be sure to explore the town before passing through.
