Oslo Dawn Patrol (ODP) was established fall 2018 by Hans Flensted-Jensen, a Danish guy living in Oslo, as an informal morning ride on Tuesdays. He initiated it by just deciding to ride the same route every Tuesday at a specific time, inviting others to join. That first fall it included a handful of riders.

As of this writing (Oct. 2022), Oslo Dawn Patrol has grown into Oslos's largest cycling community that ride every Tuesday and Thursday at 05.40 AM (sharp) from the roundabout in the bottom of the Kongsveien hill.

The rides are social, and lead by a team of road captains that alternate on leading the group(s). The pace for the default group is 28-29 km/h in the summer season. The loop is quite hilly, so take this into account.

There are a couple of hills allowing those who want to go all-in. The first of said hills are Roald Amundsens vei up to Svartskog (around 2,5 km long). There is a catch-up point at the end of that section. From this point it is customary to allow those that want to go really hard to do so on heir own accord.

There are also short sprint possibilities in Herregårdsveien and Solveien.

In the busy season there is a group 2 which rides at a lower speed, aiming at an average of 25 km/h. If you are unsure about picking a group.

Oslo Dawn Patrol is an absolutely low threshold initiative. It is not run by commercial interest, and there is no membership (nor fee). We do however have a couple of requirements:

    - Wear a helmet

    - Use front and rear lights when it's dark (this is encouraged all year around, as it dramatically increases your odds of not getting hurt)

    - Obey traffic regulations at all times

    - Be nice, considerate and respectful

There is a Facebook group accessible for those who have joined ODP at least once. By Oct. 2022, this group has 675 members. Oslo Dawn Patrol has attracted everything from pros to people who just recently started riding.

There is also an official website: oslodawnpatrol.cc

Oslo Dawn Patrol usually ends with coffee at Velochef Clubhouse in Hausmans gate at around 7-7.15
