Tips

Beautiful park with the impressive palace. Park is public and free of charge - but the palace is not intended for the public. Great view from the palace to the Karl Johans gate.

The royal residence was built in Christiania in 1824-48. The changing of the guard is at 1.30 p.m. every day. Performances by the royal guard take place on individual days in the summer months.
The castle is open to visitors from late June to mid-August.
The tour lasts approx. 60 minutes. Tickets are available at post offices.

From here it is also worth the walk to Frognerpark, otherwise a small picnic at Schlossplatz.

Impressive building, partly due to its location at the end of the long and stately Karl Johans gate that you look out over from the palace.

The classical Royal Palace in Oslo is state-owned and made available to the King of Norway. It is at the end of Karl Johans gate and is surrounded by 22 hectares of parkland. The lock has to fulfill several functions. It serves as the king's residence, the place of state representation, the administration of the monarchy and also the country's most distinguished guest house.

Today the castle serves as the king's residence, as a place of state representation, the administration of the monarchy and also as the country's most elegant guest house.
The castle appears huge with its three wings, the front is 100.80 meters long and 24.10 meters wide. The two side wings are 40.70 meters long and 14.30 meters wide, and the three wings together house 173 rooms. It is probably not as big as it seems, because the palace is one of the smaller residences in Europe.
