Oslo is a modern, diverse multicultural city. Not cheap ... but worth the trip!

The clock tower at Aker Brygge in Oslo is one of the city's landmarks. Until 1982 it stood on the Verkstedhallen building. It signaled the time for the breaks to the employees of the Akers Mekaniske Verksted shipyard.

The Aker Mechanical Workshop on Aker Brygge has been in operation for more than 100 years. Since 1986 the area has been developed into a popular area with shops, restaurants and much more. The combination of old, venerable shipyard buildings and modern architecture give this area its special charm today.visitnorway.de/listings/aker-brygge/33159

Aker Brygge is the departure point for the scheduled ferries operated by Ruter. With a 1-zone ticket, which is also valid for buses/trains, you can take a short (approx. 60 minutes) but nice round trip outside of Oslo.
There is a coffee machine and toilets on board.
The ferry goes to a few islands, you can get off there and explore them.
There is also a private fjord cruise next door, this costs about 350 NOK/pp.

Aker Brygge is a very modern harbor area with lots of shopping opportunities. The harbor promenade is very pretty and there are plenty of benches to enjoy.
Most of the cafes and restaurants here are very classy and the prices accordingly. But there are also a few cheap alternatives like a Starbucks.
At the end of the promenade is the Museum of Modern Art. I can only recommend a visit, it was very interesting, if you are a modern art lover of course.
