    About the area
In Oranjezon you walk through sheltered dune valleys, woods, dune thickets, drifts and dune grassland. This varied landscape makes Oranjezon an important habitat for many dune plant and animal species. With a bit of luck you will meet a fallow deer or roe deer! Closer to the sea you walk along marram grass and you regularly hear and see the sea between the dunes. In the past, Oranjezon was a water extraction area. This is reflected in the canals and the coniferous forest.

Very nice bike path on the edge of the dunes through nature reserve De Manteling and Oranjezon.
The nature reserves stretch from Domburg to the Veerse Gatdam. The path mainly goes through the forest, on hard-packed sand paths, but also with beautiful views of wet meadows and dunes.
A short section of the cycle path is paved or tarred.
Have already seen rabbits and deer in the surrounding forest.

Oranjezon owes its name to one of the original owners: the counts of Nassau, later princes of Nassau.
The dune area was leased from the Middle Ages to 1760 as a rabbit warande: hats were made from the rabbit skins, among other things, which found their way to Paris. Forest was planted between dunes and polders: the Oranjebosch, also known as Princenbosch. The rest of the area was used as grazing land for cattle (vroon).
