The Hospital Notre-Dame à la Rose in Lessines, Belgium, is one of the oldest hospitals in Europe, founded in 1242. This historic hospital served as a refuge for the poor and sick for centuries and is now a museum that offers a fascinating insight into medical care through the ages. The complex includes a Baroque chapel, a cloister, gardens, an infirmary and a cloister. It is a place where care for body and soul was central, and the museum displays an extensive collection of medical instruments, artwork and other historical objects.

To the left of the church is the unique Abbey-guesthouse of Our Lady with the Rose, founded in 1242 by the widow of Arnoud IV of Oudenaarde and completely restored. The large complex of a historic farm, the monastery garden with a beautiful Gothic choir, ice cellar and cemetery, is a monumental example of a self-sufficient medieval hospital.
Inside are art objects, writings from the 13th century and furniture from the 16th century.
The museum hospital from 1895, the oldest in Wallonia, shows the evolution of medicine and pharmacy. Open from 2 to 6 pm, daily (except Mondays.).
