The Monopteros is a temple in the English Garden. The round temple is laid out in the Greek style and stands on an artificially created 15 meters high hill. The roof of the temple is supported by columns. From here you have a beautiful view over the English Garden and the city of Munich. The Monopteros was built at the behest of King Ludwig I of Bavaria in honor of Elector Karl Theodor and King Maximilian I. The temple was built in the years 1832-1837 according to the designs of Leo von Klenze.
