Kessenich is the most northeastern town in Belgium. It consists of a church village and several smaller residential areas. Of these, Borgitter, 'de Dolen' (Dolenweg) and 'de Hoeven' (Schoolstraat) are old hamlets. In addition, in the 20th century there was also habitation in 'de Schutteheide' (Drietak), in 'de Hezer Heide' (Langvenstraat) and 'Aan het Schuttevendelen' (Lakerweg, also called 'In de Gallert' until the 19th century).
