In a major fire in 1814, the castle of the Lords of Zedtwitz on the Niklasberg burned down. They did not rebuild their castle, but sold the burnt site in 1821 to the stocking maker Johann Georg Unger. He had house number 3 built on the property. The building acquired its current appearance in 1892 when the new owner, the textile manufacturer Eduard Klaubert, had it converted. The Aš Museum has been located here since 1966.

The Museum Aš Ethnology and Textile Museum (Czech Muzeum Aš Národopisné a textilní muzeum) is located in the restored successor building of the manufacturer Klaubert, who had the building built on the site of the former castle of the von Zedtwitz family next to the St. Nicholas Church. There are traces of the former defensive walls on the Schlossberg, which are accessible in a park and via pedestrian paths. On the outside of the museum, tombstones from the former Protestant cemetery are on display as part of a lapidarium .
