In the vernacular, the stone is often referred to as the "Swedish Cross". In the Thirty Years' War, a bitter battle between Swedes and Imperialists is said to have taken place here. This well-known folk tale received new nourishment when a lot of small horseshoes and rusted spearheads were actually brought to light during reforestation work nearby.
