On June 9, 1830, the municipal council of the town of Tienen discussed the proposal for a new orphanage on the site of the former Capuchin monastery.
Construction began in 1834.
The building plans were drawn by the city architect Francois Drossaert.
Today behind the protective facade stands a social housing area known as Kapucijnenhof.
