Since 1920, the prisoners have been taken daily by light railway from the prison in Bernau to the peat station, which is 2 km away, and from there another 2 km to the Kendlmühlfilzen for peat cutting. The total length of the tracks in the bog was 30 km. At the peat station, the peat was either loaded directly onto the railway or processed further. Remnants of the old rails can still be seen in some places today.
