The Church of the Holy Family was built in 1907-1908 according to a design by Franz Rank in the then independent municipality of Au near Berchtesgaden. The altar, donated by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria, was created by Theodor Kolmsperger, altarpiece and Leonhard altar by Waldemar Kolmsperger junior. The owner of the Hofbrauhaus Berchtesgaden, Rudolf Kriß, father of Rudolf Kriß jun. donated the organ. The iron grating in the church comes from the Berchtesgaden collegiate church.
