The pure power of the water drifts in the oldest marble ball mill in Germany at the entrance to the Almbachklamm perfectly round balls of coarse marble dry. Behind it opens a wildly romantic gorge with waterfalls, pools and cascades, in which the crystal-clear torrent can let off steam. The elaborate trail leads safely through the entire gorge.

    Hours: May to October
     Admission: Adults (from 16 years) 3 €, young people (from 6 years) 1.50 €

With smaller children, the path through the gorge can be very stressful. By railing secured namely only the webs. The rest of the narrow path is unsecured to the stream, sometimes it goes 10 m in depth, only on the mountain runs a loose tether. Children need to be there!
If you take the path over the Mesnerwirt down through the Hammerstielwand, you need sturdy shoes.

A very beautiful and varied gorge with great photo opportunities, at the end of the ball mill is an informative conclusion.

Beautiful gorge and you walk a good distance through with breathtaking waterfalls. The way back via Maria Ettenberg is worthwhile in any case.

Very nice and good to go. Rainwear or weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes necessary. Also, hiking sticks are recommended.

Impressive, as the Almbach falls at the foot of the Unterberg in the Almbachklamm. A natural spectacle of a very special kind with very lush vegetation. The Almbachklamm itself is a narrow valley in the Bechtesgaden Alps between Ettenberg and Maria Gern. The Almbachklamm is open even after the regular opening hours at your own risk.

On our hike at the end of June'16 a path was closed and unfortunately the signs were not clear in a few places.

The path through the gorge is very beautiful and varied.

Who starts from ball mill has a great climb through the gorge.

Allow plenty of time and take a map with you for better orientation.

Very nice gorge, definitely worth it. Do not forget good shoes and rain jacket, it can get wet in a gorge.

The 3 km long hiking trail through the gorge was built in 1894 within a month by soldiers of the 2nd and 4th Company of the Ingolstadt battalion. A tunnel, 29 bridges and 320 steps were created to overcome the 200 m difference in altitude. Floods, which occur especially during the snowmelt and summer storms, have destroyed the path several times, for the last time on June 26, 1998. The restoration of the ways and bridges cost at that time 400,000 DM. Since 1999, the way through the gorge from the beginning of May until the end October open. At the entrance and exit Hammerstiel a fee is charged. From Ettenberg the gorge is freely accessible. Due to avalanche danger and ice slipperiness as well as snow and ice break the gorge is closed in the winter half-year for the public.

The predominant rocks consist of limestone and dolomite, with the Ramsaudolomit most commonly found in the gorge. He resists the karstification. The limestone itself is criss-crossed with clefts, crevices and caves. It created or arise so different rock formations.
