Grossenheidorn is located on the east bank of the Steinhuder Meer. The small beach, which is close to the circular hiking trail around the Steinhuder Meer, is particularly popular. The Ostenmeer is characterized by the special, idyllic and rugged shore landscape. In addition to many sailing clubs with their typical wooden clubhouses and jetties, wide holiday home areas, an exclusive residential area has also developed in the district of Grossenheidorn Strand directly on the southeastern shore of the Steinhude Sea. To the north, the Wulveskuhlen nature reserve is directly adjacent to the town of Grossenheidorn. Many bird species, some of which are endangered, can also be seen on the surrounding meadows and on the banks overgrown with reeds.
