The beach flags display the Zoutelande coat of arms. The coat of arms was officially granted on July 31, 1817. The blazon was as follows: In gold, a lion gules, surmounted by a barenstalk azure with three pendants. The heraldic colors are gold (gold or yellow), gules (red), and azure (blue). The coat of arms is derived from the coat of arms of Holland. The Van Zoutelande family claimed descent from the Counts of Holland, hence the barenstalk, indicating a younger branch. The coat of arms appears on the Smallegange coat of arms map from 1696.
