In the streets of Ypres you can find 'Lost Keys'. This is an original way to commemorate civilian casualties from the First World War
It is an idea of a Dutch artist. In time, a bronze key will be provided for each victim, in which the data of that citizen will be engraved.
The keys are anchored in the ground in places where such a civilian victim has fallen.

Ground Art: The "Lost Key" is a key cast in bronze, engraved with the victim's name, date of death, and age. There are also 2 pins attached, which can be anchored in a stone surface. It is an idea of the Amsterdam artist Jeroen Bisscheroux: "The keys will be placed in relevant places for the victims, such as the place of death or residence. As if they were lost and ended up there by accident. As a passer-by you suddenly see a large bronze key with something written on it. You bend down, you want to pick up the key but you can't, it's anchored in the stones."
