At Pannerden the Rhine divides into the Pannerdensch Canal, which merges into the Nederrijn and the Waal 6 kilometers further on. The Waal is 82 kilometers long and is the richest arm of the Rhine in the Netherlands and also the most important for shipping. The water is quite high at the moment.
