The Rur rises in the High Fens, i.e. in the High Eifel on Belgian territory. It flows through the medieval town of Monschau, touches the Eifel National Park and flows through one of Germany's largest reservoirs, the Rursee. From Düren the landscape becomes flatter and in Roermond in the Netherlands the Rur flows into the Maas. The Rur cycle path offers such a diverse landscape.
