Parallel to the main roads of the city center and easy to reach from all directions, between Heiligen-Geist-Kapelle, Lüneburger Straße, Gudesstraße and the Ilmenau-Auen lies the historic Schnellenmarktviertel.
Where at Hansezeiten pottery - including drinking vessels, which were called "fast" - were traded, are now held flea markets and open-air events.
In 2011, the square and the traditional artisan quarter were extensively redesigned and with much commitment of the residents. In addition to a fountain in the center of the square and a barrier-free routing, the parking areas, flower pots and the street lighting were renewed.
