In addition to the older mountain or upper church of St. Andreas, a fortified church on a hill, in the late Middle Ages Ummerstadt had the Bartholomäuskirche in the Gothic pointed arch style, near the Rodach. This was still referred to as a chapel in the 15th century and was expanded over time. In 1528, during the Reformation, it was elevated to a parish church. Daughter parishes were Colberg, Billmuthausen and Erlebach.
