On December 31, 1803, the Gibraltar Union was granted the right of inheritance from the royal mining ministry Dortmund. Erbstollen served the ventilation and drainage of collieries. With the Gibraltar Erbstolln, the hard coal seams of the Wittener and a part of the upper Sprockhöveler layers (food and dry coal), which come to light in the Stiepel area, were opened up. By the Gibraltar Erbstolln but also the coals of the bill Gibraltar were promoted to a storage place at the Ruhr. From this took place the removal with Ruhr ships. In 1855, 123 miners produced 21,370 tons of hard coal. The lug length was 2000 meters, the decommissioning in 1925.

The origin of the Ruhr area!
Nearby, according to legend, the "cowherd" found the black stones that he placed around his campfire!
The next morning the fire was out but the black stones that he had placed around the fire were still burning!
Which led to the discovery of coal.
