The Malakoff Tower belonged to the Brockhauser Tiefbau mine, which consisted of several tunnel mines, some of which were already in operation in the 17th century.
When it was put into operation in 1876, the Malakoff Tower is the youngest tower of its kind still in existence.
At the time of its construction, it was already a discontinued model, which was increasingly being replaced by iron and steel structures for technical reasons.
The facility was shut down in 1887 and served as a ventilation shaft until 1898.
